As we prepare to compile next year’s Guardian tables, we again invite universities and colleges to check that we are on the right track when it comes to matching subjects with cost centres.
For the second year running, a special website is being used to facilitate the process.
Default mappings of Guardian subject groups with JACS - the subject categories used by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (Hesa) - and cost centres are offered as a sensible guide that provides some consistency across the sector in representing how different subjects are provided.
We recognise that one size does not fit all and are giving all institutions the chance to make sensible adjustments to these mappings to reflect their particular course or departmental structures.
All mappings submitted for the current tables have been stored and form the starting point for this year’s exercise.
In addition, institutions can also indicate any Guardian subject groups that will not be available during the 2008/09 academic year.
To access the system each institution must request a system account from university.tables@guardian.co.uk
Note that only one username will be given to each institution and, for verification purposes, it will be assigned to the email address of the person requesting the account. The deadline for submissions is Friday January 16.
The mapping website will not be available from December 24 to Jan 5 inclusive.
We realise that this is an incredibly busy time of year for planning offices but we have tried to make the checking process as streamlined as possible. We do appreciate your help. Any queries should be directed to university.tables@guardian.co.uk
